User Experience Research that helps teams through deep, actionable Insights
My Approach
Design without research is art. Research without action is academia. User experience research must balance rigor, speed, and budget to deliver actionable insights that meaningfully advance the products and services it supports. That is what I am known for. I approach projects and deliver just enough research to find the trends that keep the products I support moving in the right direction. I provide the right data at the right time to make the right decisions.
As technology accelerates and AI reshapes the landscape, navigating this environment can feel both exhilarating and daunting.
With decades of experience, I’ve guided teams through multiple waves of disruption and continued to make steady, meaningful progress even amid uncertainty.
Research must align seamlessly with design roadmaps and operate in close partnership with Development and Product Management. A significant part of user research involves project management and thoughtful resource allocation to ensure teams receive the right data at the right time.
Selected Methods
Usability Testing
A product or service is not any good if it can’t be used. Usability testing ensures that your target audience and accomplish their goals as easily and simply as possible.
Benchmarks
A UX benchmarking study quantifies the user experience by measuring usability, efficiency, satisfaction, and task success using consistent methods, allowing teams to track improvements and compare their product against previous versions or competing solutions.
Contextual Inquiry
Contextual Inquiry is a field‑research method where you observe and interview users in their actual environment while they perform real tasks, allowing you to understand their behaviors, workflows, motivations, and pain points in context
Diary Studies
A diary study is a longitudinal research method where participants regularly record their experiences, behaviors, and thoughts over a set period of time while interacting with a product or completing relevant tasks.
Card Sort
A research method where participants group related concepts into categories, revealing how users naturally organize information. Typically used to help teams define the most logical (according to their target users) Information Architecture)
Expert Reviews
Leveraging my experience, established usability principles, and knowledge of user behavior, not on direct user testing, to quickly surface problems that may hinder task success or overall experience. Expert reviews are especially useful early in a project, when teams need actionable guidance before investing in deeper research or development

About Kevin
I’m a career UX Researcher with experience across major software organizations, including Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, as well as NGOs such as WACEFE, Democracy Lab, and PSSGCHI. I thrive on complex challenges and have spent my career working with cutting‑edge technology.
I began in B2B enterprise software, aligning UX efforts with product strategy and business goals. I also built and led a specialized team that delivered production‑ready XAML directly into shipping products.
After more than fifteen years in corporate roles, I co‑founded Dupla Studios with designer Melissa Quintnilha. For the next decade, we ran a successful consultancy supporting organizations from startups to global enterprises.
With AI reshaping software development, I’m focused on helping teams navigate this transition thoughtfully. I’ve seen where AI adds real value and how to avoid the pitfalls of relying on it without understanding its limitations.
A lifelong Seattleite, I wrote my first program on a Commodore 64 and have been passionate about technology ever since. I’m driven by the belief that well‑applied innovation can genuinely improve lives.
